Virtual Nature School runs programs on different themes, but the underlying principles are always the same for each project.
As a leader in the field of Nature Pedagogy and child-led inquiry, Dr. Claire Warden is sought after worldwide to provide direct coaching to educators as well as direct feedback on their reflections and the quality of engagement with children.
Our programs allow educators to have a personal & direct connection with Claire. She embraces the use of technology which enables her to work with a large number of educators within each program.
Some believe that learning should be adult-led, and others that learning should be child-led. We believe that the sweet spot is in the middle - and we call that child-led inquiry.
The learning is guided and directed by the child's interests and fascinations, with the adult acting as an instigator and facilitator.
Our programs give educators the practical tools they need to be effective as dance partners to children's inquiring minds.
Whether it's inside the classroom, outside in the play area or beyond the gate of your setting, we believe that nature is the ideal context for children to learn and play.
Our programs demonstrate practically how educators can be in nature with children in a way that lets them flourish and appreciate all nature has to offer them.
Educators who join our program become part of a community of practice that shares experiences through peer learning. There is room for discussion and debate that stimulates new ideas and shifts perceptions.
Our programs allow educators to see how their peers in different regions work with their children, which provides inspiration, encouragement and companionship.
Virtual Nature School's programs are effective because educators are trained in context while they are working with their children. There is no additional work required from educators as the program fits in with the existing planning cycle and actually reduces the planning burden on educators.
Our program allows for authentic reflective practice as educators adapt their practice and adopt improvements in real-time.

Claire is currently based in Scotland but frequently travels to Australia, the United States and elsewhere.
Claire is closely involved with her own nature kindergarten, Auchlone Nature Kindergarten, in Scotland. This outdoor nursery works with children from 2-6 year olds, who spend up to 90% of their time outside. The three spaces of ‘inside’, ‘outside’ and ‘beyond’ are mindfully linked to developing skills and confidence in a predominantly natural environment.
